About Chasse Marée

The Chasse-, quality review for the Protection of Maritime Heritage.

Since 1981, Le Chasse-Marée has explored the world of the sea, boats and sailors and, through its eponymous magazine, provides a panorama of the maritime world of yesterday and today. History, art, shipbuilding, archaeology, fishing, merchant navy and navy, but also maritime trades, port economics and work techniques, science and the environment… nourish the summaries of the 6 annual issues.

Founded by Bernard Cadoret, Le Chasse-Marée makes the sea breeze blow and highlights a global maritime culture around the sea, boats, those who live there, live there, breathe there and are inspired by it... The Chasse-Marée invented the maritime festivals of Douarnenez before creating those of Brest in 1992. That same year, the magazine launched the first major competition, Boats from the coasts and rivers of France: loan of a hundred units were launched everywhere in the country.

Since December 2020, the Chasse-Marée is a 132-page magazine. In addition to the topics that have made the Chasse-Marée a success for forty years - around history, heritage, ships, arts, literature -, new themes such as science, ecology and environment make their entry into the journal.

More generally, contemporary subjects have gained in presence to make discover, among other things, trades, careers of women and men who make the maritime of today and will make that of tomorrow.

In each issue, find an interview with a specialist, to better understand a universe or explore a problem, whether it concerns resources, the economy, culture... A new meeting to acquire keys reflection. Each article is followed by “Find out more” pages which allow you to go deeper into a subject, but this time opening up new horizons. Finally, following all these in-depth articles, maritime news is covered in a new journal, providing insight into the events and key issues in the world today and in the maritime future. Chronicles, points of view and debates also find their place there thanks to new contributors for a 360° look, including literary (with a bimonthly column by Jean-Louis Ezine for example) and artistic (carte blanche for each issue to the designer and marine painter Nicolas Vial).
