About Cardiac Anesthesia and Perfusi

Calculator to help anesthesiologist, perfusionist and intensive care therapist.

Application includes 3 calculators:

1) "Speed of cardioplegia pump".

This calculator allows you to calculate the infusion rate of the syringe perfusor with potassium chloride solution during isothermic blood cardioplegia in adults administration, depending on the following indices:

a) desired potassium concentration in the cardioplegic solution;

b) potassium concentration in the patient's plasma before next scheduled cardioplegia administration;

c) speed of the cardioplegic pump;

d) potassium concentration in the solution pushed by perfusor.

Calculation is based on the formula described in the following patent of invention: "Method of cardioplegia administration" ¹ RU2434589C2. (Mikhaylov A.P., Botkin D.A., Gordeev M.L.; Almazov National Medical Research Centre, St. Petersburg, Russia)

2) "[K] deficit & ECC"

This calculator allows you to calculate the following patient variables:

a) body surface area (based on Mosteller formula);

b) patient's plasma potassium deficit at the time of arrival to the operating room;

c) patient’s blood volume before CPB initiation, depending on the patient's gender;

d) estimated blood flow (flow index for ECC = 2,5 l/min/m2);

e) estimated potassium concentration in the patient's plasma after infusion of 10% potassium chloride solution before CPB initiation;

f) hemoglobin value post dilution (volume of infusion before CPB + priming volume of the CPB circuit);

g) hematocrit value post dilution (volume of infusion before CPB + priming volume of the CPB circuit).

Abbreviations:

1)"[K] concentration in cardioplegia sol." - The potassium concentration in cardioplegia solution for cardiac perfusion;

2) "[K] concentration in sol." - The potassium concentration in solution in perfusor;

3) "PVc ECC" - Prime volume of the extracorporeal circulation (ECC);

4) [K] necessary (before operation) - Amount of gram [K] necessary to normal [K] value;

5) Theoretical [K] value post infusion - Theoretical [K] value post infusion (before ECC).

3) "Hemodynamics"

This calculator allows you to calculate hemodynamic indices by the Fick equation.

a) body surface area (based on Mosteller formula) - BSA;

b) cardiac output - CO;

c) cardiac index - CI;

d) stroke volume - SV;

e) stroke index - SI;

f) systemic vascular resistance - SVR.

For cardiac output (CO) we used on the oxygen consumption (VO2) value equal to 3 ml/kg.

BVp - it`s Patient’s blood volume (for Male 70 ml/kg; for Female 60 ml/kg).

!! If you need to calculate some specific indices only, then fill the corresponding boxes and specify the zero value (0) in the others.
