This simple little book, although its main function is to popularly introduce Sufism to lay people, is also a kind of my position on this discipline. As can be seen in the last chapter, what is also a kind of conclusion from the Sufism whose discussion will be promoted in this book is Sufism with the characteristics that I have alluded to above. His writing was driven by the two consciousnesses above: the promotion of Sufism and the need for people not (once again, after centuries of past history) to fall into negative and excessive Sufism.

Its presence is felt to be necessary considering that books that convey a dual spirit like this are not widely available. If read together with the Handbook of Islamic Philosophy, which was published with this book, it will be a reintroduction for Muslims in Indonesia to the intellectual treasures that have previously been eroded by the current of modernization that has swept through since the beginning of the 20th century.

Some of the material contained in this book has been published in the form of papers, articles, or forewords to several books. However, apart from being edited and added to here and there, these materials are placed in a completely new context in accordance with the systematics of this book.

Hopefully this small book can be a contribution to the development of Islamic thought in Indonesia, or at least provide color to the appreciation and practice of Islam in this country. If readers gain an interest in Sufism after reading this book (let alone be encouraged to read more serious works in the same field), then my task seems to have been accomplished.

Hopefully Allah SWT. always provide His guidance and 'inâyah to me, and to all readers, so that the presence of this book can truly provide positive benefits - no matter how small or simple.

Hopefully the material content of this application can be useful for self-introspection and better improvement in everyday life.
