The Reina-Valera, also called the Casiodoro de Reina Bible or the Bear Bible, is one of the first translations of the Bible into Spanish. The work was made from the translation of the original texts in Hebrew and Greek and was published in Basel, Switzerland, on September 28, 1569.1 2 Its translator was Casiodoro de Reina, a Spanish religious converted to Protestantism.2 He is nicknamed Reina-Valera for having made Cipriano de Valera the first revision of it in 1602.2

The Reina-Valera was widely disseminated during the Protestant Reformation of the 16th century. Today, the Reina-Valera (with various revisions through the years) is one of the most used Spanish Bibles by many of the Christian churches derived from the Protestant Reformation (including the evangelical churches), as well as by others. Christian faith groups, such as the Seventh-day Adventist Church, The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, the Ministerial Church, Gideons International, and other non-denominational Christians.
