The parables of Jesus are those brief narrations told by Jesus of Nazareth that contain a moral and religious education, revealing a spiritual truth in a comparative way. They are not fables, because they do not involve animal characters with human characteristics, or allegories, because they are based on facts or credible observations of nature, having most of these elements of everyday life.

Simple exposition of the main parables of Jesus, the Lord, where he explains the essentials of the doctrine for which he came to our world.

The parables are contained in the canonical gospels, although they can also be found in the apocryphal Gospels, such as Thomas and James.

The purpose of the parables of Jesus is to teach how a person should act to enter the Kingdom of Heaven and, in their majority, also reveal their mysteries. Sometimes Jesus used the parables as dialectical weapons against religious and social leaders, such as the Parable of the Pharisee and the publican and the Parable of the two sons. In the Bible are the following texts entitled Purpose of the parables: Matthew 13: 10-17, Mark 4: 10-12 and Luke 8: 9-10.

The parables of Jesus are a source of blessing, which enlighten the people of God in regard to spiritual truth. It is a literary composition in which a brief narrative, real or fictional, illustrates a moral or spiritual truth.

What a parabola

"Examples, comparisons or allegories in which, starting from a sensitive reality, a message is communicated to the listener or reader and invited to a personal decision." This term is applied especially to those that have the form of a small narration.
