About Barometer For Engineers

This app is designed to take pressure sensor data from your phone.

Barometer for Engineers allows the user to obtain a pressure signal from their device and display the signal on the screen.

Different pressure conversions are available on this app and the app starts with the Android default of hPa (HectoPascal). The app allows conversion to kPa (KiloPascal), Pa (Pascal), bar (Bar), torr (Torr), atm (Standard Atmosphere), at (Technical Atmosphere), psi (Pounds per square inch), mmHg (Millimeter of Mercury), and inHg (Inch of Mercury).

Saving is allowed to your Android device. The app allows the user to select a data acquisition rate (Time in milliseconds to save the data at), and then saves the data while the app is still running on the screen.

To Start saving hit the 'Save File' Button and then to finish saving hit the 'End Save' Button. If you enter in a file name that was previously used the file will append (the previous version of the file will remain and data will be added to it).

Once the data is collected it is stored in a text file with the Universal Time Constant (In Milliseconds!) (UTC), Pressure, and Unit used while storing. The user can switch units and the file will properly display the correct unit if switched while saving.

This text file is located in the following location. Go to My Files, and Device Storage.

Path: Android/data/com.rabatah.k.zachariah.barometerandroid/files

Once you are inside this folder you will find all the files that you have previously saved.

You can move or use these files on your computer in a spreadsheet program. The values of the text file may look strange when opened on Windows Notepad, but once the values are copied and pasted into the spreadsheet they should separate into different cells.

If they do not, in your spreadsheet program, click the Data Tab, then Text to Columns, then Delimited. Tab should be auto highlighted. Select the Space Checkbox also in addition to the Tab Checkbox and hit Finish. You should now be able to separate the data if you already did not.

If you have any questions please email me at [email protected].

Permissions Explained:

Photos/Media/Files & Storage Permission - This permission is required in order to save the pressure data to your device. This is a core feature of the app. The only location accessed by the app in your device is the Path indicated earlier in the description, and file access to any other part of your internal storage or sd card is NOT accessed by this app.
