The Aadhar card (UID) is an attempt to uniquely & digitally identify people for the primary purpose of tracking the social security of an individual. Aadhaar is a 12 digit individual identification number issued by the Unique Identification Authority of India on behalf of the Government of India. The UIDAI's mandate is to issue every resident a unique identification number linked to the resident's demographic and bio-metric information, which they can use to identify themselves anywhere in India, and to access a host of benefits and services. Each Aadhaar number will be unique to an individual and will remain valid for life.
