Typhoid fever is a general term for foreign infections in ancient Chinese, not a specific name for a certain disease. The ancients often regarded the inducement of the disease as the pathogen. The typhoid fever in "Treatise on Febrile Diseases" by Zhang Zhongjing is also the meaning, and has nothing to do with modern typhoid fever.
