"The Rising of the Shield Hero" is a Japanese light novel by Aneko Yusagi. The illustration is Seira Yanan. Since 2012, it has been serialized on the novel posting site "Become a Novelist". Also, since 2013, it has been made into a book by MF Books (published by KADOKAWA, planned by Frontier Works). The book is a story based on a web novel, but with major additions and corrections, the flow and development of the story have changed significantly. As of June 2019, the cumulative circulation of the series has exceeded 7.8 million.

From the March 2014 issue of "Comic Flapper" (KADOKAWA), a manga version by Aiya Kyu has been serialized. Also, from April 2014, the Gaiden "Redo of the Hero of the Spear" has been serialized in "Let's Become a Novelist", and it was decided to make it into a book and comicalize in July 2017, and it will be made into a book in December. Comicalize has been serialized by Neet in ComicWalker and Nico Nico Seiga since August.
