Shamsur Rahman (23 October 1929 - 18 August 2006) was one of the leading poets of Bangladesh and modern Bengali literature. During his lifetime he became the leading poet of Bangladesh. In the second half of the twentieth century, i.e. in the fifties, he appeared in Bengali poetry as a modern poet. And in a short time he became known as a poet in two Bengalis (then East Pakistan and West Bengal). When the poem 'Rupali Snan' was published in the magazine 'Kabita' by Buddhadev Basu, the unique patron of modern poetry, Shamsur Rahman caught the eye of Sudheejan as a poet. Later his superiority and popularity was established in both Bengalis. He is a citizen poet, but the cosmos was not rare in his poetry. His two poems written on the freedom struggle of Bangladesh are very popular. During the War of Independence, he used to write poems under the pseudonym of Majlum Adib (Endangered Writer) in famous Calcutta and other newspapers. Shamsur Rahman's nickname is Bachchu.
