Kurma Purana is one of the eighteen Mahapuranas of the traditional religion and an old scripture. The book is named after the incarnation of Lord Vishnu.

Like other Puranas, Kurmapurana includes legends, mythology, geography, pilgrimage, theology and a philosophical Gita. This Gita, known as the Ishvara Gita, is a significant feature of this Purana. In it, various things similar to the Bhagavad Gita have been expressed through the Supreme Lord Shiva. In this Gita, Byasadeva himself says that Lord Krishna in the form of Narayana gave Arjuna this knowledge of Mahadev, which is known as Bhagavad Gita.
