Nuzhat Al-Mushtaq fi Penetrating Horizons without Net This book is considered a geographical encyclopedia of the world in the twelfth century.

Al-Idrisi wrote the book for King Roger at his request, and included all the sound information that the ancients knew, and added to it what he had acquired and what he saw and observed in his travels and tests. This book remained a reference for European scholars for more than 300 years, and it contains one thousand and seventy maps.

The book, Nuzhat al-Mushtaq fi Penetrating Horizons, by Al-Idrisi, without Net. Al-Idrisi had traveled a long journey during which he visited Andalusia, North Africa, Egypt, the Levant, as well as Asia Minor, the East, and parts of Western Europe, especially the coasts of England, France, and Italy, then returned to Ceuta. He then settled on the island of Sicily, in response to the invitation of its king, Rogar II (533 AH - 113 AD), who invited him to create a picture of the earth for him to find out the truth about the world. It took Al-Idrisi to accomplish this task fifteen years (548 AH), during which he benefited from the writings of early Greek and Arab geographers, and divided the world into seven regions, relying on Ptolemy’s map after it was corrected.

Al-Idrisi's book Nuzhat al-Mushtaq fi Penetrating the Horizons, also called the Book of Rajar or the Book of Rajjari, because it was compiled at the request of King Roger II (Rajjar), King of Sicily, is considered one of the most famous Arab geographical monuments. Europeans gained from it a great deal of information about the countries of the East, as did the Easterners from it. The two teams copied its maps and translated some of its sections into their various languages.
