One of the many letters of Al-Hafiz Ibn Abi Al-Dunya that he devoted exclusively to mentioning the virtues of the month of Ramadan and the purposes of fasting, in the third century AH, in which he mentioned a number of hadiths contained in the characteristics of the month of Ramadan, its virtues, the virtue of praying during it, and the desirability of delaying its suhoor and hastening its breaking of the fast, and this has become widespread. The hadith part was accepted by most scholars, and they quoted it in their books and hadith works.

In this book, the writer collected the hadiths and reports on the characteristics of the month of Ramadan and its virtues, the number of which in this hadith part reached sixty-three hadiths. He began with the hadiths mentioned in the virtue of Sha`ban and its characteristics in nine hadiths, then he followed them with the hadiths mentioned in mentioning the month of Ramadan and its virtues, and explaining the status of the fasting person during it, and the virtue of Laylat al-Qadr, and seeking it in the last ten days of it, and urging generosity and spending in Ramadan, and urging preserving the limbs during Ramadan. And an explanation of the virtue of standing in prayer during the month of Ramadan, and the narrations reported from the Companions regarding reviving the month of Ramadan with the prayer of standing during it. In addition to the hadiths mentioned about suhoor and delaying it during the month of Ramadan.

This is in addition to a statement of the sources that were mentioned in memorizing and dictating this book from a number of hadith scholars, and it came at the end of the book: “The end of it, and praise be to God, Lord of the Worlds, was commented by Ahmed bin Abdullah bin Al-Muslim bin Hammad bin Maysarah Al-Azdi, may God forgive him and his parents and those who I ask forgiveness for them all, and may God’s blessings and peace be upon our master Muhammad, his family and companions.”

Al-Hafiz Abu Bakr, Abdullah bin Muhammad bin Ubaid bin Sufyan bin Qais Al-Baghdadi Al-Qurashi, their client, a loyalist of the Umayyads (208 AH - 281 AH), nicknamed Ibn Abi Al-Dunya (his title overshadowed his name until he became famous for it); Al-Hafiz Abu Bakr was born in the city of Baghdad, in the early third century AH, in the year two hundred and eight (208 AH). He is an Arab historian and writer. He taught Al-Mu’tadid Al-Abbasi and his son Al-Muktafi Billah. Al-Hafiz Ibn Katheer - may God have mercy on him - said about him in the beginning and the end: “He is famous for his many, useful, and popular writings, which are widespread in Al-Ruqiq and other things, and he was honest, a memorizer, and of chivalry.”
