The application of illuminated statements to the Fathers of the Church is a wonderful book containing epistemological teachings in many subjects
Some application references
A) References to the Greek text:
PG = Patrologia Graeca, ed. J.-P. Migne, Paris, 1857-1866.
The writings of the Fathers in Greek: Greek text with Latin translation in two parallel rivers. Migne, based on several previous publications of the writings of the Greek Fathers, organized and categorized it in a common format and published it in 161 volumes in Paris during the years 1857-1986.
ΒΕΠ = Βιβλιοηηκὴ Ἑλλήνων Πατέρων καὶ ἐκκλησιαστικῶν συγρραέέων, Ἀῆῆναι.
The Greek Fathers' Library and the Ecclesiastical Scriptures: a newer collection of the previous, still in succession in Athens, Greece. It is distinguished from the former in that it provides, whenever possible, a scientific text. [1] Because those who published it took from the German scientific bodies the right to republish in Greece the texts that had already been published by the German scientists, and that this group should be sold in Greece only.
SC = Sources chrétiennes, ed. H. de Lubac, J. Daniélou, Paris, 1941 sqq.
Christian sources: a group published in France from 1941 until now, publishing the writings of the parents in their original language (Greek or Latin) on the left page with a French translation on the right-hand page. It is considered one of the most accurate scientific publications of the writings of the Fathers, and has been issued so far more than 500 volumes.
ACO = Acta Conciliorum ccumenicorum, ed. E. Schwartz, Berlin, 1914-1940.
The work of the Ecumenical Councils was published by the German scholar Edward Schwartz in Berlin (Germany) from 1914 to 1940. We quote from it the texts of St. Cyril the Great that were included in the work of the Ecumenical Councils, although the text of these writings is also published in its entirety PG group mentioned above, but in the ACO group is characterized as a scientific investigator. This is also why the text taken from ACO (instead of the text in PG) is contained in the CD-ROM called TLG, whose contents we explain below.
TLG = Thesaurus Linguae Graecae
Is a CD (CD) issued by the University of California containing all Greek writings starting from the writings of Homer (8th century BC) until the beginning of the Middle Ages, passing through all the Fathers of the Church who wrote in Greek. Therefore, more than 95% of the statements in the present book are on this CD.
Pusey = P.E. Pusey, S. P. Cyrilli archiepiscopi Alexandrini in D. Ioannis evangelium, Oxonii 1872, Bruxelles 1965.
The interpretation of St. Cyril, Archbishop of Alexandria, of the Gospel of St. John: The publication of a scholarly journal of the Anglican world met with Piusi P.E. Pusey, published in England at the end of the nineteenth century the movement back to tradition and to the writings of the Fathers of the Church. It was issued in three parts, and the third part is devoted to the remaining parts of St. Cyril's interpretation of the Epistle of the Apostle. Although the text of these interpretations is also published in the PG series, it is contained in the TLG compact disc according to the Pusey World Book for its scientific accuracy. Therefore, whenever we quote a text from St. Cyril's great commentary on the Gospel of St. John or the Epistle of the Apostle, it is also placed in the Pusey World Pole, in order to make it easier for those who use the TLG CD to refer to it.
Aubert = J. Aubert, S. P. N. Cyrilli Alex. opera omnia, 1638, 7 vol., in-fol.
A publication published in 1638 for all the works of Saint Cyril the Great, which was adopted by Migne and re-published in his group PG, where he listed in the text numbers pages of the Bulletin Aubert. When we cite some of the writings of Saint Cyril the Great Nord, in addition to their location in the PG page number, according to Aubert, to facilitate the use of the TLG CD to reach these texts, because it is listed in the numbering of the pages of the Bulletin.
TU = Texte und Untersuchungen zur Geschichte der altchristlichen Literatur, Leipzig-Berlin, 1882 sqq.
Texts and research in the history of ancient Christian literature: a collection published in Germany since 1882. We cite only the texts from which the TLG CD is quoted.
GCS = Die griechischen christlichen Schrifstetler der ersten drei Jahrhunderte, Leipzig, 1897 sqq.
The Greek Christian writers in the first three centuries: studies and texts published by German scientists who are critical of the writings of the Fathers, published in Leipzig beginning in 1897. We cite only the texts from which the TLG CD is quoted.
The application is based on a book of illuminations of the Church Fathers issued by the Monastery of St. Anba Macar in the town of Shehit.
