Maritime knots have been known since the advent of navigation and shipbuilding, but primitive people used them for their own purposes. It is believed that they began to knit ropes long before the fire was fired. Strong nodes were created by sailors, because the sailing speed and crew safety depended on the quality of the mast attachment.

With the help of intricate simple knots, thousands of meters of rigging gear, a mast, a yoke and a sail were fastened. There are over 500 species of marine nodes, but in modern navigation about 30 items are used.
