MINT learning content in Virtual Reality for grades 7-11 at high schools

High into space, deep into a body cell or into the inside of a microscope: Virtual Reality allows you to look into fantastic worlds and offers a special wow effect while learning. In order to familiarize secondary school pupils (grades 7 - 11) with various fields of STEM (mathematics, computer science, natural sciences, technology), ZEISS has developed a solution that makes access to these subjects an experience. With Virtual Reality and a specially developed app, ZEISS offers the opportunity to use digital media to introduce STEM topics, thereby conveying the material relevant for secondary education. The app covers four topics anchored in the secondary curriculum. Students will be able to access learning content in the areas of ophthalmic optics, microscopy, astronomy as well as virtual and augmented reality. The topic of optics deals with the structure of the human eye and the principle of refraction. In addition, the app explains visual changes by optical lenses and the eye disease cataract. In the field of microscopy, the students learn about the structure and function of a microscope. In addition, they virtually invade the human nucleus. You will also learn more about the structure and properties of a DNA strand. The theme of astronomy deals with the rotation of the earth and the different phases of the moon. The highlight of the category is the Apollo 11 mission, which students can experience visually. The fourth topic, Virtual and Augmented Reality, helps students better understand the background and functioning of virtual and augmented reality. With the aid of various application examples, you will learn about future fields and applications of virtual reality. The four main topics are chosen in such a way that they can be integrated into the lessons by teachers nationwide and sometimes across classes. In addition to the four learning environments, the app includes a tutorial that explains the operation of the app in combination with the ZEISS VR One Plus at the beginning.
