Tokyo Tower is a telecommunications tower located in Tokyo, the capital city of Japan. Tokyo Tower is located in Shiba Park in the Minato district and was built in 1958. Radio antennas designed for television broadcasting were installed in 1961, but Tokyo Tower now broadcasts signals for Japanese media outlets such as NHK, TBS, and Fuji TV. A higher digital broadcast tower, known as Tokyo Skytree, was completed on February 29, 2012, as the tower's height was not high enough to support full digital terrestrial broadcasting to the region during Japan's planned digital television transition. Tokyo Tower is repainted every five years, which takes about a year.
