Two cats and a monkey

Once upon a time there lived two cats in a jungle. One day while roaming here and there in the jungle they saw a Roti (Indian bread) lying on the ground.

They both reached to the place where the Roti was lying as fast as they could. They were hungry. Their mouths filled with water when they saw the Roti.

Now the question was who will take this Roti. Suddenly one of them grabbed the Roti under his paws. This made the other one angry.

They both started fighting with each other for the Roti. At last instead of fighting they decided to cut the Roti into two equal parts so that they both can have the Roti.

Now the question was who will divide the Roti into two equals. So they went to the monkey and asked him to do this work for them.

The monkey agreed to divide the Roti for the cats. He was very cunning. He himself wanted to eat the Roti. So he made a plan.

He cut the Roti in this way that the first piece was a bit bigger than the second piece. He put both the pieces on the ground in front of the cats.

Then the monkey analyzed both the pieces and said, “The first one is bigger.” So he took a bite from the first piece to make it equal to the other piece.

Again he put both the pieces on the ground and analyzed their size. This time he found the second piece was bigger than the first piece.

He said to the cats, “The second piece is bigger.” So he took a bite from the second piece to make both the pieces equal.

The shrewd monkey kept on doing this and ultimately he ate the whole Roti. The Roti got finished before the cats could understand anything.

Now the cats repented on their foolishness. The moral of the story is “It is always wise to settle our arguments ourselves otherwise the third person could take unfair advantage of the situation.”
