NLP is a position and methodology that generates a number of methods.

As an independent integrative field of knowledge, NLP has grown out of various models of practical psychology, incorporating all the best from an applied point of view.

Initially, NLP was very eclectic, but over time it acquired a powerful methodology, largely based on the epistemology of Gregory Bateson and his theory of transformations, works on the ecology of the mind, communication theory, as well as the theory of logical types of Bertrand Russell, which became the prototype of logical levels in NLP.

At the first stage of NLP development, it began with a simulation of Fritz Perls, the founder of gestalt therapy, taking into account all the basic approaches and principles of gestalt psychology.

Therefore, the way NLP looks at behavioral and mental patterns is largely due to the Gestalt method. Another “model” was the famous hypnotherapist Milton Erickson, who used special linguistic patterns in his work that created trance states of various depths.

John Grinder achieved his doctorate in linguistics, using the work of Noam Chomsky, so it becomes quite clear that linguistics should also be attributed to the scientific roots of NLP.

 The authors of NLP proceeded from the idea that the internal processes of subjective experience are reflected in speech and linguistic structures.
