The squirrel brothers

In the forest, there was a squirrel family with a father, a mother and 2 children living happily under the green foliage.

Every morning, when every creatures woke up to greet the new morning sunshine, father squirrel and mother squirrel said goodbye to their children, going to the forest to find food.

While their parents were getting ready to enter the forest, the squirrel brothers hurriedly helped their mother bringing the seeds out to the yard to dry them up.

Before leaving mother squirrel called her children and said:

- It’s getting harder and harder to find food, we must travel deep into the forest.

You two must protect the food carefully. It rains usually these days, don’t let the seeds get wet okay?

The brothers both said yes loud and clear.

After their parents left, the older squirrel told his brother:

- Today I’m going to my friend yellow squirrel’s house to study, you take care of the seeds and don’t let them get wet!

- Okay brother.

Right after brother squirrel left, the younger squirrel thought to himself: Everyone has gone, why should I stay here? I better come to sister lark’ house to play

Then he left the seeds and went out.

That afternoon dark grey clouds came, signaled a very big rain. Older brother squirrel thought:

- Even if I leave for home now, I won’t be on time, and my brother is at home now. I should stay here playing for a while and come home after the rain finishes.

Meanwhile, the younger squirrel was singing with sister lark and thought:

- My brother must have come home and taken all the seeds inside by now.

With those thoughts, none of the brothers came home.

After the rain, the brothers came home and saw the seeds all wet.

Right then mother squirrel came home too but she couldn’t find any food.

When she saw the seeds, she asked:

- What happened?

The brothers blamed each other.

Then father squirrel came home with lots of pine cones.

After listening to the story from mother squirrel, father squirrel said:Luckily I found the pine cones, or else we will all have nothing to eat

You both must be responsible for what you are assigned, and shouldn’t blame each other.

The squirrel brothers apologized to their parents. The whole family shared the delicious pine cones together.

Lesson: Whenever you are assigned something, you shouldn’t rely on someone else and try to fulfill your own responsibility.
